Due to the amount of questions that I receive by email every day, I decided today to start a new thread: FAQ’s.
Anytime someone asks me if NLP will help them achieve anything, I get uncomfortable. NLP won’t help anyone do anything. NLP is a field. Asking such a question resembles asking “Do you think biology will help me achieve my weight loss goals?”
Hmmmmmmmmmmmm… Yes? No? How the heck do I answer that?
NLP is an epistemological model that you can use to precisely map out thought and behavioral patterns.
In a way, you can use NLP to map out the thoughts, feelings and behavioral patterns that result in your current weight. You can also use NLP to map out the thoughts, feelings and behavioral patterns used by people who successfully got leaner.
Bridging the latter patterns into your life will require more than NLP. It’ll require the use of creative visualization, hypnotic techniques (such as the swish pattern), affirmations, or any other change technology as well as a committed plan of action.
A map won’t get you to New York City. You need a car, a bus, a bicycle, a plane or some other form of transportation — unless you want to get there walking.
NLP is a mapping or modeling technology, not a change technology. That’s its strong suit.
