Learning NLP: Epistemological Tools Vs. Techniques

I’m always looking for fresh and exciting content about Neurolinguistic Programming. How frustrating it is to always land on some blog article about goal-setting, motivation, inspiration, the infinite power of the mind, the spiritual revolution and other hyped up BS that weaves some pop NLP into it.

Let’s draw a few lines in the sand for us to identify our real goal in learning NLP. Also, this will help you separate the chaff from real value that you can find on the internet when you’re trying to figure things out.

Epistemological models of NLP you must master:

  • Representational systems or Modalities
  • Synesthaesia (technique: anchoring)
  • Sub-modalities or Modality distinctions (as called in the meta-states model)
  • Time-encoding or Timelines
  • Meta-model of language

Technique models derived from the epistemological models:

  • Swish patterns
  • Goal-Setting
  • Swish pattern
  • Hypnotic language patterns (Milton Model)
  • Precision model of language (Meta-Model challenges)

Skills you must develop:

  • Observation
  • Calibration
  • Use of tonality
  • Anchoring (practical application of synasthaesia)

Very, very few people actually learn and master the epistemological models of NLP. And those are the ones that will enable you to develop your own techniques, which you’ll then be able to apply in any field you wish (therapy, persuasion, sales, counselling, seduction, parenting, teaching, training, etc.).

Don’t succumb to the apparently easy way out of learning patterns and techniques. They are not the most important pieces to learn if you truly intend on mastering NLP. Focus instead on the very valuable epistemological models. Those will make you home free and provide you with an intuitive understanding of NLP.

Also, invest time in practicing and mastering the skills that will make you a competent practitioner of NLP. Leading the list, observation.

If you haven’t already, download your free Skill-Building Guide by filling out the form on the right. IT’S VERY IMPORTANT AND WILL ACCELERATE YOUR LEARNING.

Go out of your way to make sure your trainers master the epistemological bits of NLP. Few do. Become part of the few.
